A power of attorney is not automatically handled the same way by every bank, investment firm, or financial institution.
Each organization may have its own review process, documentation requirements, or institution-specific forms. Even when you have a valid power of attorney document, the institution may need time to review it before allowing the designated agent to manage an account or complete a transaction.
Call the Financial Institution Before Visiting
Before going to a bank or financial firm, call ahead and ask what documents or forms they require. Confirm whether they need the original power of attorney, identification, additional paperwork, or an internal authorization form.
Acceptance procedures can vary from one institution to another, so checking in advance can help prevent delays and unnecessary return visits.
